V.P. Tckalov museum
After Valery Pavlovich Tchkalov's death during the test of the fighter "E - 180" December 15, 1938, the Soviet of People's Commissars passed the resolution " About perpetuation of the memory of V.P.Tchkalov ".
January 9, 1939 the presidium of the Gor'kovsky Oblispolkom together with the Bureau of the Oblast Committee of C.P.S.U. (B) in elaboration of this resolution made a decision to found V.P.Tckalov memorial museum at his birthplace. It runs as following: " In order to perpertuarte the memory of the great pilot of the century our countryman - Hero of Soviet Union V.P.Tchkalov, - in addition to the arrangements directed by the government's resolution about perpetuation of the memory of V.P.Tchkalov, - the presidium of the Oblast Committee and the Bureau of C.P.S.U. (B) prescribes: 1. The house where V.P.Tckalov was born and brought up is to be turned into the museum where all the documents and materials concerning the life and work of V.P.Tckalov are to be concentrated ". The Gorky Regional Museum of local lore of history and economy (now the protected museum of history and architecture) was put in charge of preparation of the Tckalovs' house for transferring it into a museum. The work was started to collect the stuff for the museum. Within one year the museum received more than a thousand of articles. They were granted by Tchkalov's wife Olga Erasmovna, and also by various organizations and individuals.
In May, Eugene Mihajlovich Boev was appointed director of the museum.
July 7, 1940 the museum was opened for tourists. |
