Rest and work of a house in Vasilevo
In the corner by the window stands a two-post writing table. On the table there are a telephone, an ink-set, a notebook, an ashtray and an unfinished packet of cigarettes. Tchkalov sat at this table while writing articles to newspapers and magazines. By the table stands a bookstand with books. Among them there are books with the grantors' signatures. One of the books is by Williamur Stephenson, a famous polar explorer, with the autographs: "To Valery Tchkalov from his Arctic co-explorer."
The photos, pictures hung on the walls of this hall transfer us to the 30-ies of the previous century. They show what a hearty welcome did the inhabitants of Vassilievo give to their celebrated countryman.
During his holidays in Vassilievo Tchkalov went fishing and hunting. In the showcase one can see his hunting suite in which he wandered with a rifle in the neighboring forests. One of the displays is V.P.Tchkalov's bust, which was made from Tchkalov himself by Moskow sculptor E.A.Mendelevich. Mendelevich is the creator of V.P.Tchkalov's monument in Nizhny Novgorod. |
